Approximately fifty cars have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Automobiles, building surfaces and mailboxes were marked, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they reported in a statement.
Law enforcement state they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a man observed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish fluid.
The substance had been placed in the form of a swastika, they added.
Officers then discovered multiple other marked cars and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under regulations banning the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police report early analysis indicate the fluid was most likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no clue as to its source; investigators are currently not aware of any physical harm in connection with the event," they commented.
Municipal representatives said they were attempting "to solve the case" and have asked to the community for information.
An important representative said the attack rendered him without words and had to be addressed promptly.
"This act hits the core of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the extremist violent incident in 2020," he stated on online, mentioning the death of nine people by a gunman aiming at residents of immigrant origin in 2020.
